C.A.R.E

Child At Risk Exam

A C.A.R.E. is a comprehensive, head-to-toe physical exam. A C.A.R.E. is used to document recent or past trauma to children. We use state of the art equipment to record all physical evidence collected during the exam. Our Center is also able to refer severe physical abuse cases to outside agencies for additional follow-up services. Children have many choices during this exam as well and are not restrained at any time. If a child refuses an exam, we do not proceed.

Who needs a CARE?

Any child who has an allegation of physical abuse.

A pre-verbal child exposed to a high-risk setting.

Child presents with signs/symptoms that might indicate physical abuse.

Child exhibits behaviors consistent with physical abuse/neglect or has a sibling that presents with a history of physical abuse/neglect.

A CARE is also offered if a child refuses a SAFE during their scheduled visit.

How much does an exam cost?

Families are NEVER billed for exams or interviews

We seek reimbursement through Medicaid, private insurance, Children's Division (Department of Family Services), law enforcement, private insurance, or through the Department of Health.
